Ko Tā Bernard Fergusson (waenganui) ka kaingākaunui ki te ao Māori i tōna wā hei kāwana Tianara (1962 – 1967), ā, he hoa piripiri ia ki a Hugh Kawharu (taha matau). Nā Fergusson tētahi kōrero whakataki i tuhituhi ki te pukapuka a Kawharu, Ōrākei: a Ngāti Whātua community (1975).
