This painting by John Bevan Ford, ‘Peoples of the Pacific’, is part of his ‘Ngā tohunga waka’ (expert navigators) series. It depicts various types of waka (canoes) used in Pacific voyaging, and stars used for navigation. By circumstance the peoples of the Pacific were seafarers.
