Story: Kermadec Islands

Meyer Islands and Herald Islets

Meyer Islands and Herald Islets

The Meyer Islands and Herald Islets are a few kilometres north-east of Raoul Island. They have remained free of introduced mammals, and have acted as sanctuaries for the original abundant bird life of the Kermadec Islands. By the 2000s cats, rats and goats had been eliminated on Raoul Island, and bird life was being re-established from the populations preserved on these tiny islands.
