In 2012 a Natural History New Zealand production, Primeval New Zealand, was shown on TV One. It explored the ancient origins of many New Zealand animals and plants. Compered by Peter Elliott, the programme drew on highly sophisticated techniques – Weta Workshop provided 3D modelling and computer graphics to re-create extinct creatures, while high-definition cameras and slow-motion presentation threw new light on New Zealand's natural world.
